Adjacent to the Minitown there is a recreational lapa with braai facilities and toilets.
Here at Rocky Ridge Fantasy Minitown we believe that meaningful learning will take place if it is embedded in the social and physical context within which it will be used. When learning is embedded within this context, the learner can see from the beginning how the knowledge is used in different situations and what its significance is.
There is a difference between knowing and doing. If information is stored as facts rather than tools, the knowledge remains ‘inert’. Many research studies suggest that much of the formal, de-contextualised and abstract knowledge being taught in schools is not retrievable in real-life, problem-solving contexts, because this approach ignores the interdependence of situation and cognition.
Our learning environment is, therefore, designed in such a fashion as to provide an authentic representation of the reality and to bridge the gap between theoretical learning in the classroom and the real-life application of the knowledge. This authentic context reflects the way the knowledge will be used in real-life.
Learners are allowed to interact with the learning environment and to practice their newly acquired skills. Learners will have ample opportunities to engage in collaborative interpersonal activities.
The Minitown as such offers a wide variety of activities. The children can entertain themselves by driving/charging on wheeled toys through the streets. Around every corner and curve there are road signs which they have to obey. They also can visit the various fantasy buildings. Next to every building there is a parking area where the child’s ‘vehicle’ can be parked so that the driver can play for a while—for instance, inside the police station or the hospital, as the fancy takes him or her.
Several optional activities that are linked to the Minitown are available on request. A unique list of activities can be set up for your group. In addition to the activities, you will have a choice of presenters too. A real traffic police officer or Daantjie Kat can, for example, convey the principles of road safety to the youngsters, explain road signs to them and also arrange a road safety competition at the end of the visit. Prices for the various events and opportunities are available on request.
Our garden is designed and developed with your child’s sheer enjoyment in mind. We have traditional lawns, flowers and shrubs that attract insects and birds. The gardens are both secure and peaceful, surrounded by mature trees which offer a pleasant setting, for all to enjoy.
You are free to bring your own food and snacks, or make use of party organisers such as Crazy Chameleon. On the other hand, if you do not wish to prepare meal boxes at home, you may make use of our tuck shop.
Our tuck shop on the premises sells sweets, cold drinks and chips and even pizzas or hamburgers on demand.
As part of the optional activities the children can "build" their own pizzas or hamburgers..
Meal/party boxes can also be prepared for groups. Full catering packages are also available. Make use of our panel of party organisers such as Crazy Chameleon. Prices are available on request. Booking is essential for these optional catering services.
